Since there will be hundreds of video submissions from the performers of this production, the producers would like to maintain a consistency in the shooting format and execution.  The following are tips/suggestions to help guide you through the shooting process and help us in the post production. Also, please refer to the synopsis page to learn more about the movie and what types of videos we are looking for.

16:9 HD is the preferred format.  However, if you only have access to a Mini-DV camcorder, attempt to shoot at the ratio of 16:9.  If you are unable to do this, frame the shots knowing that the top and bottom will be matted with black ‘letterbox’ bars.

Try to use a tripod whenever possible with a fluid head.  Avoid the dreaded “Shaky Camera.”

3    Ensure that the footage is properly exposed.  We will be able to color correct to an extent.

4    Make sure the subject is well lit.  If shooting indoors in low light, at least use practicals (lamps, overhead lights) to clearly illuminate the performer.

5    Make sure you are getting good audio levels.  If possible, use an external mic.  If you’re using only the camera mic, and the performer is far from the camera, do an alternate ‘audio take’, whereas the performer repeats the dialogue into the camera mic at closer range, at the same tempo/feel that was performed.  We will synchronize the audio at a later time in our studio.

6    Do multiple takes if possible, from different angles, so we have ‘coverage’ to choose from in editing.  Keep the outtakes, also, as we may use them in the end credits.

7    Avoid shooting in areas where there are strongly visible people/children in the shots; if you do not have releases from them, we may not be able to use the shots.

Do not shoot with any prominent products (Pepsi, Sony, Cheetos, etc.) in the shot.  Either cover them up, turn them so the product name is obscured, or remove them.

9    Make sure there aren’t songs or music playing during your shoot, that would be a copyright infringement.  All music from this production must be original.
